Alix K. Berglund, DVM, PhD

Dr. Berglund is the Principal Investigator of the laboratory and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Maryland, College Park. She obtained her DVM from Washington State University in 2014 and her PhD from North Carolina State University in 2018 under the mentorship of Dr. Lauren Schnabel. Dr. Berglund is interested in mesenchymal stem cells as a regenerative therapy, regulation of immune responses by TGF-β, and horses as a translational model for biomedical research. In her free time, she enjoys riding her Thoroughbred mare, Majestic, and exploring with her papillon, Lincoln.

Oleksandra Kepple, DVM, MS, PhD

Dr. Kepple is a Postdoctoral Associate in the laboratory. She obtained her DVM and PhD degrees from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine in 2011 and 2018 respectively. Dr. Kepple is interested in exploring the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells as a regenerative treatment for infectious diseases. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with friends, running, and reading.

Morgan Hawkins

Morgan will be joining the Berglund Lab in the summer of 2024 to begin her PhD studies. Morgan will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in 2024. Morgan is interested in the detection of diseases using advanced genomics techniques. Morgan enjoys participating in artistics pursuits and outdoor activities like hiking and field sports.
